Zombie Driver

Well, when you consider that I am playing through a new game every day I guess it was only a matter of time…Today, with “Zombie Driver,” was the day that I finally played a game which I didn’t like.   I’m not going to play mind games and drag out the review seeming neutral until the end, you are my readers and I will not lead you astray.

Zombie Driver is an arcade/adventure(?) game in which you are a driver who cruises through a zombie infested city killing the walkers and saving fellow survivors.  The story goes on to reveal how the zombies Continue reading

Goof Troop

For day 12 of the Game a Day Challenge I decided to return to the SNES in style by playing “Goof Troop.”  Man, was that a mistake…Well, I guess it depends on how you look at things.

The Goof Troop SNES game is actually a very fun playthough, I can’t fault it there.  Driven partly by nostalgia, partly by my love for nearly all things Disney, and mostly my appreciation for relatively simple controls and play-style, I flung myself into the world of Goofy, Max, Continue reading

The Binding of Isaac

The binding of Isaac BG

Sometimes life gets in the way of your plans and sometimes you just aren’t feeling up to the task you’ve given yourself…on occasions such as today, both are the case.  When I feel demotivated in gaming or overwhelmed I reach for the title that I played today (and play after nearly every live broadcast):  The Binding of Isaac.

The Binding of Isaac is an arcade-style dungeon crawl in which you take control of a young child who is trying to escape the clutches of his fanatical mother on a mission to Continue reading

Dead Pixels Review

Dead Pixels 2012-06-03 22-05-24-61

A new week brought with it a new challenge, a sick gamer.  I woke up with a crushing headache and next to no energy, which is why I decided to play a game in which I could kill those who are in a similarly zombified state:  Dead Pixels.

If I had to describe Dead Pixels to a gamer, I would say that it is an “8-bit” remake of “Left 4 Dead.”  If I was to describe it to a non-gamer… Continue reading

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

To finish off the first week of the Game a Day Challenge I went for a game which is of legendary status, and one that I’m sad to say I’d never played through before, “The Legend of Zelda:  A Link to the Past.”

“But Cam, you’re a gaming writer, how have you never played A Link to the Past?”  I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but (I’m a little ashamed to admit) the gaping void in my gaming history isn’t just Link to the Past.  In actuality, I have never completed ANY Zelda game.  I have dabbled in a few, but not having a Nintendo system growing up made me never really feel like I was missing out.  That ended Continue reading

Donkey Kong Country

For the “Game a Day Challenge” today on stream I decided to go retro and play Donkey Kong Country (the original SNES version) and I’ve gotta say, I did not expect the game to be half as grueling as it was.  To be honest, my prediction of the difficulty level and the time it would take to complete was way off.  I had no idea what I was in for.

A little background, I did not own an Super Nintendo as a child and had never played Donkey Kong Country (DKC) before, but I figured it would follow the pattern of most platformers of the time and be difficult but not a problem for a seasoned gamer such as myself…boy was I wrong.

As of writing this article, the game is not complete, but I thought a peek into the frustration and sheer surprise and disbelief would be a more interesting take on the game than an actual review.  I will not lie, Donkey Kong Country Continue reading
