Tricky Tracing – A Simple Review

banner

Need another casual game that is simple in concept and takes little attention while still posing a challenge?  You know, something to say, occupy your hands and wandering mind while you’re having your what have now become daily hour-long phone calls with your mother (love ya mom)?  I came across one such situation and found another wonderful app to fill my time and entertain my fingers.  I’m talking about Tricky Tracing.

No, this is not some kind of children’s coloring game as the name might make you assume (but here’s one if you’re interested), although the game play is simple enough for all ages.  This puzzle game comes from an easy enough concept, basically it is a maze game.  You are attempting to draw Continue reading

Listen to the episode here.

“When a plastic surgeon is found murdered in his office the police are quick to apprehend a prime suspect. It is a textbook case – except the suspect didn’t do it. There is more to the deceased doctor than meets the eye. Much more.

You will lead private investigator Alan Baxter to the truth as an ever-increasing mystery unravels before his eyes. Follow clues to exciting locales such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. Pros:
– Art style fits the game’s time period
– “Original smooth jazz score”
– It was only 90 minutes long

Cons:
– Every single character is either boring or stuck-up
– 3-second “puzzles” that only serve to waste your time

A Quick Look At DigiPen

banner Ever wonder where game designers learn the trade?  Many are self taught and migrated from other areas of computer programming.  There are also many commercials for colleges that have a “new and exciting video game program.”  Forget about all those.  If you want to be a part of the video game industry there is one place to go for your education.  DigiPen.

Tie Attack isn’t big on profiling programs and schools, so we’ll keep this brief, but we had to take a quick look at DigiPen because their student’s products have blown us away time and time again. Continue reading

Listen to the episode here.

“In Perspective, the player has two modes of control: a first person camera moving in 3D space, and an avatar that is constrained to the 2D world. In order to get the 2D avatar to the goal at the end of the level, the 3D player needs to move around in 3D space to create paths for the 2D avatar.”

Cons:
– Moving platforms sometimes have slight collision oddities
– Compatibility issues
– Some puzzle rooms seem a bit too easy

Hidden Gems in Gaming

Banner

It’s no secret that indie games are claiming a bigger stake in the gaming market.  With greater exposure through programs such as Steam Greenlight, and a few games from smaller companies such as Braid and The Binding of Isaac making big waves, the indie game scene is ready to explode in popularity.  Over the last couple years, as a member of the Super Budget Brothers podcast, I have played hundreds of indie games and found several hidden gems along the way.  And now I present some of those treasures to you on a silver platter.  Enjoy.
